Cathedral donation welcomed

Hosted by the Minister for Greater Christchurch Regeneration the Hon Dr Megan Woods, Prime Minister the Right Hon Jacinda Ardern was in Christchurch on 15 February 2018 to reconfirm the Government’s commitment to the reinstatement of Christ Church Cathedral and witness the receipt of the first large donation to the project.

A cheque was handed over by Philip Burdon (representing the Great Christchurch Buildings Trust) to Peter Guthrey, the Chair of the Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Trust.

The donation was described by Minister Woods as a symbolic start to fundraising for the project.

The Prime Minister reconfirmed the Government’s $10 million grant to the reinstatement project, and welcomed the donation by Mr Burdon. Members of CPT and the Anglican Diocese of Christchurch were also on hand for the event. In a statement, Bishop Victoria Mathews said she was positive and confident about the way ahead [for the Cathedral].
